Researching the subject

This is where I start my adventure of creating my very first website. Before I created this blog I had to sit down and think about what I would like to create and why. I knew my interests well, but I had to be specific and select only the ones that I can get most fun of when investigating and researching about it.

By applying Marshall McLuhan's theory "The world as a global village" I needed to think of something that will not only entertain but also make people to interact with the site.I had to think of a concept which could be a "village" for all the web surfers where they can "meet" at the same time despite their geographical location or time. McLuthan argues that technology become an extension of our senses, like sight and sound. The telephones, radios, computers and TV's became a long distance ear and eye by projecting further than our biological range of vision and hearing. He says that "As electrically contracted, the globe is no more than a village. Electric speed at bringing all social and political functions together in a sudden implosion has heightened human awareness of responsibility to an intense degree." (1964: p.5).  He argues that "Time" has ceased, 'space' has vanished. We now live  in a global village... a simultaneous happening' (1967: p.63).  McLuhan is suggesting that through our " extended senses" we experience events, as far as the other side of the world, as if we were in the same physical space.

In connection to that,  my first idea was to create a web about beauty products including their reviews. I thought that it would be beneficial for others to read opinions about cosmetics they would like to try before buying it. The idea was that the website could be a virtual tester of the beauty products instead of a traditional print advert. It was meant to inform in the interactive way by enabling others to comment and participate into the site.

After having a long thought about the whole concept I decided not to go ahead with the project because:
1) Eventually I realized that the idea I had was more suitable for a blog since I was going to allow other people to comment on my site which was crucial to maintain it and keep it alive.
2) I concluded that I have more interest in fashion than beauty products
3) The message I wanted to send across to the readers wasn't clear enough

To sum up I thought of concentrating on fashion web rather that revision on beauty products.
